“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” – John Bunyan While Bunyan might not have been talking about car donations in Chicagoland, this is one way today for people to help others who cannot return the favor.
Cars of Hope provides reliable, working car donations to deserving families from the Chicago suburbs. Typically, Cars of Hope works with these families after they’ve suffered from severe life events that make them incapable of acquiring a car or having their current vehicle repaired. Unfortunately, after the donation, Cars of Hope is typically no longer able to provide additional support. However, from our experience, if the recipient is in an exceptionally supportive community, the community will play an active role in aiding the family through future difficulties.
As the economy is only beginning to recover from the widespread effects of COVID-19, people who make car donations in Chicagoland are true heroes and lifesavers – people in a better position financially may not fully know the scope of the impact of the loss of mobility to vulnerable families.
What’s more is that car donations not only help people keep their jobs, it’s also one way to improve the chances of the health of a family, for example, to look for a better-paying job, which then impacts everything about the family, from access to food, education, and housing.
Several studies regarding the impact of mobility on families showed that those who have access to working or reliable cars fare better in the longer term. These days, a car for a regular American family is not a luxury but an essential need tied deeply to the dignity and wellness of life.
“I want to donate my car, but where?”
Cars of Hope is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that provides Chicagoland families with working cars to support family life, community, and continuity of livelihood. Now imagine a family who suddenly finds itself with $1,400+ in car damage after a front-end collision.
That type of expense can send a family sliding back, with little hope of immediate financial recovery. Cars of Hope provides a ray of light at the end of what could be a long, long tunnel of financial problems that could easily affect children and the family’s entire wellbeing. Without car donations in Chicagoland, who knows what this type of “bump in the road” could do to the family involved?
While no organization can help everyone, we make sure that we can work with families living in the suburbs of Chicago. Our volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that families “In Community” receive the attention and aid they need at their darkest times.
How do deserving families receive a car from Cars of Hope?
It begins with the application process, which is done through an approved sponsor or agent. Deserving Families in the past have come from various sponsors, including the Community Christian Church, Village Baptist Church, Grace Church of DuPage, World Relief, Wayside Cross Communities, Safe Families For Children of Chicago, Lazarus House, Nativity House, Mutual Ground, ECFA Counselling Center, Fellowship Housing, Caring Network, and the Hesed House.
These organizations or sponsors identify Deserving Families in relation, and financial terms before and after auto donations are received. That’s why you must do so through reliable and genuine charitable institutions. These organizations work closely with Deserving Families when it comes to donating a car to charity. Good car donations will go a long, long way in ensuring that the receiving Deserving Family will be on its feet in no time. Families use charity cars primarily for searching for or keeping employment.
